Petra, the fabled “rose-red city half as old as time”, a truly grand experience

Petra, Jordan

This jewel in the Jordanian desert, some 80 Kilometers south of the Dead Sea, came into prominence in the first century though its proximity to the spice road, leading from southern Arabia to Damascus, bringing immeasurable riches. This explains the emergence of the breathtaking, monumental character of its gigantic palaces and tombs.

The first glance through the narrow rocky gorge at the first columns and ledges leaves us speechless, as does the panoramic view from the “High Sacrificial Site” down to the façades of the royal tombs, which stand like pearls lined up on a string.
